How to set up Automatic Merging?

Updated today

The Automatic Merging feature is the engine of efficiency within the Order Merging app. By setting up smart rules, you can allow the app to scan and combine orders from the same customer instantly, without you ever lifting a finger.

This is the best way to ensure that "accidental" back-to-back orders are caught before they reach your fulfillment team, saving you significant time and shipping fees.

To set up your automation, please follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your Shopify admin and click on the "Apps" option on the sidebar menu.

2. Select and click the “Order Merging” app.

3. Once inside the app dashboard, locate the main sidebar menu.

4. On the sidebar menu, click on the “Automatic Merge” option.

5. On the next page, you will see the configuration settings to build your automation logic.

6. Click on the “Add condition” button to create a new automatic merge rules

7. A pop-up window will appear to configure your condition

8. Complete the fields by giving your condition a name and describing when will this be triggered

9. The next step is to define your Time Window. Set the duration (e.g., 2 hours, 12 hours, or 24 hours) during which the app should look for multiple orders from the same customer.

10. On the “Order Range” field, set up the maximum number of orders that you allow to be merged (At least 2 orders required for merging.)

11. In the "Requirements" section, you can add specific conditions. For example, you can choose to only auto-merge orders that have the same Shipping Address or from the Same customer.

12. Next, choose your Merging Strategy. Just like manual merging, you can automate how the final order is handled:

  • Update Original Order: This will fold all items and details into one of the original orders, keeping that order number as the primary.

  • Create New Order: This will start fresh by generating a brand-new consolidated order for fulfillment, making it easier to track as a single unit.

13. In the “After Merge”, you can decide on what will happen next after merging the selected orders. You can choose between:

  • Cancel original orders (automatically cancel orders after successful merge)

  • Mark orders as paid (automatically mark merged orders as paid)

14. Once all fields are filled, click the “Create condition” button to enable your new automatic merge condition.
