How to preview my upsells
Updated over 6 months ago

Let's show you how to preview the upsells in Vanga AI.

This post will show you:

- How to preview your upsells in Vanga AI
- How to complete a test order to see the upsells in real time
- How to enable the Bogus payment method (for test orders)

Preview vs. test order

What's the difference between the upsell preview in your Vanga AI dashboard and a test order?

Preview: The preview simply "emulates" how your upsells will look on the post-purchase and Thank You pages.

It's not an exact match to how the upsells look in the real world because of Shopify's limitations preventing Vanga AI to load a real checkout inside the preview.

Test order: By making a test order in your store, you will see exactly how your upsells look when customers interact with them.

Preview the upsells in Vanga AI

There are three ways to preview your upsells in Vanga AI.

1. Dashboard

Click the preview button to see how Vanga's upsells will look on your post-purchase and Thank You pages.

2. Manual offers

When you open a manual offer with both post-purchase and Thank You page upsells, you can preview the entire customer journey at once.

You will also notice that you can switch between individual previews just for Thank You page upsells or post-purchase upsells in the upper right corner.

3. Offer history

The customer journey puts you into the shoes of your customers. The Preview button shows you the exact products each shopper got offered after their purchase, both on the post-purchase and the Thank You pages.

Test order example

Post-purchase upsells

This is what your customers will see when they complete an order and see your post-purchase page, before reaching your Thank You page.

Thank You page upsells

This is what your customers will see when they complete an order and reach your Thank You page.

After the Buy now button is clicked, customers will begin a 2nd order. The difference is they only need to enter their payment details again, not their personal & shipping info.

When they make a 2nd payment, they will complete a 2nd complementary order to the first one.

In the order confirmation, they will be able to see the original order and the one they just finished with your Thank You page upsell.

How do I test the upsells on my store?

To test the post-purchase and Thank You page upsells in your own store, you have 3 options:

1. Make a real order in your store and refund it ( use a credit/debit card and don't use promo codes for a free order if you want to show the upsells)

2. Make a test order on our Demo store (fastest method, no configuration required)

3. Make a test order with the Bogus payment method (some configuration required)

Check this help article by Shopify to enable the Bogus payment and learn how to make a test order in your store.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Important: If you enable the Bogus payment method, it will be visible for all your store visitors. Mind that you need to disable it quick if you want to avoid customers getting away with free orders.

How does the Bogus payment method work

After you follow Shopify's guide, you will be able to make a test order without spending money.

Then you will be able to simulate the entire upsell funnel in your own store and see how everything works.

Having the test payments enabled, you will be able to run a test on your Thank You page upsells and see how the 2nd order is made.

Run a Post-Purchase upsell test

To test how your post-purchase upsells will work, simply complete an order in your Shopify store.

1. Add any product to the cart and go to checkout

2. Complete the order

3. Accept or decline the upsells

Run a Thank You page upsell test

To run a test on your store using the Bogus payment, you need to finish an order to reach the Thank You page.

1. Select an upsell and click Buy now

2. Enter the dummy payment details

3. Finish the test upsell order

You will notice the following notification:

This is a complementary order to order #XXXX

This indicates the original order your customer made before they saw the Thank You page upsells.
