How Vanga Prioritizes Manual vs Automatic Upsells
Updated over 9 months ago

This article will explain how Vanga prioritizes the offers to display when you have manual upsells created.

The simple answer is manual upsells will be displayed with higher priority over automatic upsells. This way you can be sure that the upsells you want to display when specific products are bought will always show instead of Vanga's AI recommendations.

However, there are a few other possible scenarios that we'll describe here.

Sometimes there could be two or more upsells with the same product or category triggers that overlap. In some of these cases, one product will have a higher priority over another. Let's take a look at all possible combinations:

Product vs Collection Triggers

Manual upsells with product triggers will always have higher priority over the collection triggers.

Let's say you have 2 manual upsells:

  • Upsell #1 with a trigger product Hoodie from the Hoodies & Sweatshirts collection ⬆

  • Upsell #2 with a trigger collection Hoodies & Sweatshirts ⬇

Upsell #1 will always have a higher priority and will be triggered first.

However, if another product from the Hoodies & Sweatshirts collection is purchased, Vanga will display the upsells configured with this collection as a trigger.

If a customer purchases a product from another collection with no manual upsells assigned, the algorithm will display an automatic upsell.

Upsells Triggered by the Same Products

You can create two or more upsells having the same product trigger. Let's take a look at the example:

  • Upsell #1 with a Sweatshirt trigger and a Hoodie upsell πŸ”„

  • Upsell #2 with a Sweatshirt trigger and a T-Shirt upsell πŸ”„

In this case, if the Sweatshirt trigger product gets bought, the upsell products will be displayed randomly, meaning one customer will see the Hoodie upsell, and another - the T-Shirt upsell.

Upsells Triggered by the Same Collections

You can create two or more manual upsells with the same collection trigger. Here is an example:

  • Upsell #1 with a Hoodies & Sweatshirts collection trigger and a Hoodie upsell πŸ”„

  • Upsell #2 with a Hoodies & Sweatshirts collection trigger and a T-Shirt upsell πŸ”„

With this setup, when a customer buys something from the collection, one of the upsells will be displayed on a random principle.

Upsells with Multiple Triggers Bought Together

Let's say you create two upsells with different product triggers. A customer buys both of the trigger products in the same order. The upsell that will be displayed will again be randomized. Here is the following example:

  • Upsell #1 with a Sweatshirt trigger and a Hat upsell πŸ”„

  • Upsell #2 with a Shoes trigger and a Hoodie upsell πŸ”„

If both the sweatshirt and shoes get bought together in a single, one of the upsells will be displayed on a random principle.
